From the Bird’s Mouth, 2008-2009
From the Bird's Mouth is a project that consists of melting US pennies into a form using direct sunlight, magnified by a 3 x 4 foot fresnel lens. The project was initially inspired by three 19th-Century scientists whom all went blind from staring at the sun in an attempt to better understand retinal after-image.
The project can be installed a number of ways depending on the site; sometimes incorporating photographic documentation, video, and the object produced from the process.
